As a multi-functional solvent, SOLVENT MS-30000 may provide a unique performance in formulation for reductant and diluent in a form of solvent, which are usually applied in various industrial coating systems. II. Universal polar solvent

The unique characteristic of SOLVENT MS-30000 is that it is a solvent containing oxidized active group with weak hydrogen bond (2.5) and high dissolving parameter (approximately 11.1), which is of great convenience for the formulators. For example, as you add alcohol, you can get the solvent with appropriate hydrogen bond strength. While adding hydrocarbon, the hydrogen bond strength will be reduced and accordingly the dissolving ability decreases. Actually, through adding alcohol or hydrocarbon solvent into SOLVENT MS-30000, you can get any solvent you want to dissolve the polymer, and with very good volatility at the same time. The versatility of ES 1000 solvent has greatly enhanced various functions of solvent system, e.g. good solubility with resin, strong viscosity and firm finished film etc., all of which are required for coating application.

III. Upgrading solvent volatility. Volatilization rate of the solvent in the coating system is not fully decided by the solubility of polymer and volatility of the rest solvent mixture. Another factor which influences the dissolving and volatilizing and lacquer film drying is the azeotrope in the lacquer film. These mixtures are usually considered as the important factor in upgrading the volatility rate of the whole solvent system. Although this has been recognized, formulators often ignore it. They either do not think these mixtures useful,,do not believe the solubility of these solvents, or reckon use of the solvents not economical. As a matter of fact, many solvents with azeotrope added SOLVENT MS-30000 are not only economical but also of good solubility. Addition of this composition may also improve the lacquer film, e.g. the volatility rate of the solvent may be promoted, and the problems often found during coating, such as pin holing and surface crusting, may be solved. While the coating film is improved, the acceleration of solvent volatility rate may also speed up the coating production line and decrease the energy required during the film forming. From this point of view, SOLVENT MS-30000 is really a multifunctional solvent.

IV. Optimizing the solubility promoter from economy and performance
SOLVENT MS-30000 is a good solvent of nitrocellulose lacquer. It can substitute for ester or ketone of medium drying rate in the diluents. More superior performance can be gained by adding more alcohol (good solvent of nitro cellulose resin). Adding the diluents of SOLVENT MS-30000, particularly when the content of SOLVENT MS-30000 is over15% (WT), the formulators can get resin solution of low viscosity and high solid, which cannot be obtained with traditional diluents. This may be illustrated by the following graph:

This excellent performance can be achieved in any mixture solvent of SOLVENT MS-30000 and alcohol. Therefore, it is an efficient way to reduce cost and improve performance in the optimization of formula.

V. Reference for formulation

General substitution formula of the SOLVENT MS-30000:
A mixture of 70 percent SOLVENT MS-30000 and 30 percent alcohol substitutes for 100 percent MIBK;A mixture of 85 percent SOLVENT MS-30000 and 15 percent alcohol substitutes for 100 percent ester solvent. Of course, the proportion of SOLVENT MS-30000 finally determined depends on the different resin and solvent systems of formula. The proportioning rates recommended above have been proved efficient in reducing the cost and improving performance of the solvent.

VI. Health and safety reference

It is considered that the multi-functional SOLVENT MS-30000 does no harm to human skin when exposed in the air and does not stimulate scarfskin and eyes as contacting with them. But SOLVENT MS-30000 is thought to be of medium toxicity as orally taken. Its main poisoning way is steam inhalation. If exposed excessively in the air, the vapor concentration of SOLVENT MS-30000 will be up to a degree endangering people’s health. Therefore, as most of the chemical products, proper pretreatment must be done for SOLVENT MS-30000 before use so as to make sure its safety and efficiency.
